52.402 14.104 / Gutshof 2, 15518 Neuendorf im Sande / Directions
For almost three years, a group of over 25 adults with children and many helpers have been working to fill the old Neuendorf im Sande estate with life and create new spaces. In cooperation with the Trias Foundation and Terra Libra GmbH, the association Zusammen in Neuendorf S.A.N.D.E. e.V. was able to permanently remove the property from price speculation on the real estate market in 2018. Already now, the estate offers space for about 60 people. The living space of the tenants who have lived there for a long time should be preserved and new living space should be created through conversion and new construction.
Handicraft workshops, studios and a village store as well as an exhibition space will be set up in the numerous former stable buildings on the site, and concerts will be held regularly. A wood workshop has already started operations, and other trades, such as a bicycle workshop and a cheese dairy, are to follow. The farmland belonging to the project is also considered a common good. For the past two years, the farmers' collective Lawine, as part of the group, has been cultivating the associated 16 hectares of land in the form of solidarity agriculture. One of the aims of all the farms on the site is to make the estate once again a place of training for young people.
From 1932 to 1941, the Gutshof was a hachshara site, a training place that prepared Jewish youth for emigration to Palestine. After 1941, however, the National Socialists converted the site into a collection and forced labor camp, and later it served as an agricultural work site for prisoners of war. In GDR times, the site was an agricultural Volkseigenes Gut. Since 2018, the non-profit association "Geschichte hat Zukunft - Neuendorf im Sande e.V." (History has a future) has been working to reappraise the history of the estate, document it and make it accessible to the public on site.
